The Built Environment (BE) sector, spanning across construction and facility management, has heavy reliance on lower skilled foreign labour and manual tasks. Worldwide, there has also been increasing interest in this sector to look at robotics and automation technologies to reduce reliance on manpower, improving productivity and safety, and changing the way we build and maintain the buildings. In 2018, the BE Robotics R&D Programme was initiated by BCA, tapping on NRP’s RDS FI, to develop robotics technologies and enablers for the BE sector and leverage on industry efforts in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and Smart Facilities Management (FM).
The programme is led by the Built Environment Research and Innovation Institute (BERII) from the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore.

Robotics for Construction 4.0
The objective of the project is to use a systematic approach based on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) paradigm for construction robotics and automation, to address the construction productivity issues.
Site Monitoring Robot: Use of Robotic Integrated Total System for Site Monitoring in mega reclamation proiect
This objective of the project is to produce a Robotic Integrated Total System (RITS) to fully automate the collection, compilation and analysis of a wide range of instrumentation data for site monitoring. It promises a high productivity and eliminate possible human error in the process.
Automated Lane Closure and Re-Opening System (ALCROS)
The objective of the ALCROS project is to develop a solution that automatically places and retrieves traffic warning signs as well as traffic cones during lane closures without any physical presence of workers on the road. The aim is to reduce the chances of lane closure associated accident fatalities by removing the necessity of having any workers on the road at all.
